The Association of Manitoba Archaeologists would like to see the archaeological heritage at the site of the future Canadian Museum for Human Rights treated like it has been identified and reported, as one of the top ten site in Canada.

PHOTOS FROM THE SUMMER OF 2009 - Some of the more invasive techniques being used, initial proposals were to go dig underneath the cultural horizons, now they are just digging through them.

On June 3rd 2009, there was a meeting organized by Dr. Monks of the University of Manitoba to discuss the current situation at the site of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) at the Forks. The meeting was attended by Consultant Archaeologists, representatives of the Native Students Association, Manitoba Anthropology Students Association, the Association of Manitoba Archaeologists, and the Archaeologist who had been monitoring the construction of the CMHR. The results of the discussion were composed into a letter written by Dr. Monks (with group edits) and sent to a variety of people involved, including Arnie Thorsteinson, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the CMHR. The letter is available for download HERE.
